I see depression as the absence of hope. We can begin to heal by looking at hope not as a wish for better days, but as a renewable resource one that must cultivate and create through realistic goals, a path to meet those goals, and the motivation to travel that path. Sometimes we find our path to hope blocked by troubling memories or experiences from our past. I can help you confront and clear those road blocks.

If you have depression, feelings of sadness, irritability, despair, self-doubt, loss of any pleasure, and a distorted and negative sense of self disrupt your life and negatively impact your health and wellness. Depression is a severe mental health illness stemming from irregularities in your brain chemistry. In addition to the neurotransmitters in your brain, depression is also influenced by feelings of helplessness or loss. If you have a personal history of violence, neglect, and poverty or if another member of your family has depression or another mental health condition, your risk of developing depression increases. In treatment we will explore themes that are a contributing factor.

Everyone feels depressed symptoms at some point in their lives but when it starts to interfere with your life, counseling can help. Although depression can feel debilitating, it is treatable. I will coach you in mindfulness, positive psychology, and somatic exercises to help you get into your body and out of your vigilance (worried mind). I often incorporate meditation and breathing work in my sessions. All clients are given homework so they may be proactive between appointments to achieve results. While we personalize therapy plans to meet the needs of individuals; therapy will include the following for everyone: carefully analyzing the root of problems, boundary setting, and goal setting.

Most of therapy or counseling processes utilize validation, unconditional positive regard, and reframing as common techniques to get someone to heal from their depression.
