Jonathan Christink, B.A., M.Ed.
In working with individuals who struggle with depression, I primarily use a cognitive behavioural therapeutic (CBT) approach. The principal aim of this approach is to increase awareness that thoughts and behaviours drive emotion. In addition, the goal is to increase consciousness of distorted perceptions. That is, often individuals who struggle with depression do not think accurately, and if their thoughts are not accurate, than they cannot be trusted. The purpose of CBT is to bring awareness to cognitive distortions and then teach individuals how to rebalance their thoughts to be more accurate.
Deirdre Moore, M.Sc.
Depression is felt by almost everyone at some time in their life.It
feels all consuming and it seems that it affects everyone and
everything. There can be times when it feels difficult to get up in the
morning because it seems there is no point, nothing to feel good about
and that you are so tired and the days are so dark.Losing interest in
friends, family and even food. I have found that when people need help
re-focusing, talking openly with some-one they can trust is a
relief.Together we can make a plan to move forward. Sharing situations
which are causing confusion, whether it is work, partners, family or
friends helps clarify how to see things in a more positive way.
Charity Fleming, MSW, RSW
Being a cognitive behavioural therapist and receiving advanced post graduate training specific to depression, I can help clients learn the techniques to overcome their depression in 20 sessions! Using a combination of behavioural activation, cognitive restructuring, and skill building techniques, I help clients change their mood and lead happier lives. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is acclaimed for being the best type of therapy and most evidence based for a reason; as research suggests, four months of CBT for depression is better than 16 months of drug therapy. Try it and turn your life around!
Chantal Blackshaw, M.A., M.DIV., CCC
Life can be so overwhelming at times that it becomes difficult to bounce back to a more positive disposition. Sometimes nothing we try seems to help, making us fall deeper and deeper into despair. Fortunately there is hope. By taking that first step and reaching out for help, you will have someone to walk beside you, someone to help you to dig through the rubble weighing you down, so that you may emerge ready to begin rebuilding your life, a life which has allowed in light and laughter.
Malou Twynam, M.Ed., CCC
Depression can be one of the most isolating and frightening experiences a person can have. It can affect virtually all aspects of emotions, mental functioning, and physical wellness and create a sense of helplessness and hopelessness. There is help and there is hope, and the sooner it is accessed, the better the chances of a full recovery. I can support and guide you to move from the black hole of depression and back to a brighter friendlier place – the life you used to enjoy. The first step is in recognizing that depression is an illness and not a personal failing and that it plays tricks on your mind.
Kim Christink, M. Div., D. Min.
Depression can be one of the most difficult experiences a person can experience! It affects one in five of us. It travels in families. It feels like you are living under an ominous dark cloud. While it can make life difficult, it also can effect our concentration, our physical health, our relationships, our career and our self-esteem.
Like cancer the early detection and treatment is in direct correlation to successful treatment. . I have journeyed with hundreds over the years. I am happy to help you through this!
