If you are suffering from depression, you are not alone. Depression is one of the most common reasons people seek help. There are a number of reasons one may feel depressed. Some causes of depression are biological imbalances, genetics, age, trauma/grief, stress, health issues, or medication/substance side effects. Often depression is also mixed with anxiety. It is very important to get a thorough assessment which is the first step of treatment- to understand the etiology, degree of severity and to help guage treatment.Treatment usually involves talk therapy and sometimes medication. As an RN and therapist, I have experience with both treatment of depression and understanding of mediciatons.

When you're depressed, life feels overwhelming. Therapy, medication, or a combination of the two are proven effective in alleviating depression. I'll teach you how to connect with your pain, understand its roots, and then interrupt the cycle of negative and hopeless thoughts that characterize depression. When you can find meaning in your suffering and share it in a supportive environment, you're able to move forward instead of staying stuck. You'll understand the events and behaviors in your life that contribute to feeling depressed and learn how to experience a range of emotions.

Research has shown cognitive-behavioral therapy is as effective as medication in the treatment of depression, and without the side effects. I use cognitive-behavioral therapy as my primary method of treating depression but also use clinical hypnosis as an additional way to reach through the blues. Depression doesn't need to be clinically debilitating before therapy can be beneficial. Situational feelings of being down, post-partum blues or depression, or even a general feeling of "the blahs" can all be improved upon with supportive counseling.

Are you feeling hopeless? Do you feel numb, like you are never happy or sad? Do you keep all of your feelings inside? Do you sometimes wish you would not wake up or imagine how to end your life? Have you had so much emotional or physical pain these past few months or years that you feel stuck?
You may be struggling with depression. There is hope. Together, we will explore what may be causing your depression. It could be related to thought patterns you learned growing up, grief, a chemical imbalance in the brain, poor diet or lack of exercise. I specialize in providing individual, couple or family counseling to address depression in adolescents, adults, veterans, and first responders.

Depression can be avoided if we follow certain good things in life and know the art of living from a good psychotherapist depression healing professional. Tips to remember if you do not want to fall victim of depression are: have a positive attitude, dress neatly and maintain healthy hygiene, don’t overstay at home, even if you have to take menial job, increase your social interest so that you will be in contact with lot of people and would not have time to think negatively and have accumulation of more negative chemicals in your mind, and exercise regularly. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy can be very helpful for depression. When people are hurting or depressed they need God loving grace.

My practice with clients suffering from depression involves identifying the many possible origins of depression, be they genetic, situational, self-belief and/or familial. My work with clients is usually step-wise; helping them find enough difference in their experience to have hope, then building on that experience to create multiple positive and protective factors to encourage further growth. I utilized CBT, Narrative, Schema-focused, Rogerian and Hypnotherapy approaches to help this process occur. I also encourage them to find more ways to care for themselves through moving, eating and sleeping better and healthier diets.

Those who have never been depressed likely do not have much understanding of what you are going through. Getting up in the morning is likely hard for you and those things that used to be easy are suddenly hard. You're depressed and you want hope more than anything. I will help you understand not only why you are depressed but provide you a path to that place where life is once again enjoyable. I will assist you in understanding the neurophysiological underpinnings of your depression and how tightly that is connected with your thinking, your behaviors, and certainly your relationships to other people. I will give you a step-by-step approach in removing the pain and returning to joy.

Depression can often consume someone and their life. It can effect their relationships, jobs, self-esteem, physical health, and even contribute to other mental health issues. Working together with me (and possibly medications, if appropriate, and that would be prescribed by a doctor) to combat your depression could be the first few steps toward recovering from this debilitating disease and getting your life back on the path you fully intended it to be. Depression does not have to run your life.

A detailed intake is completed for a client presenting with depressive symptoms. A safety assessment is completed during the intake. Immediately address the intensity of the symptoms (which may or may not include medication) and begin to explore with the client his/her experiences that may influence ones sense of self and his/her current condition. Depression can occasionally be a gift in that it calls to ones attention changes that may be good for ones life.
Anxiety often accompanies depression increasing the negative effect on ones emotions. Clients are taught coping skills and behavioral changes as part of the treatment process.
Joe Egli, Ph.D., L.P.
