Negative emotions are simply unfinished, unprocessed emotions.Bev will explore with client what difficulties and stressors client has been struggling with. A Depression Screening Chart will always be filled out by Bev during the first session and then as she and the client work, further Depression Screenings may be done. It is encouraging for client to see tangible evidence that he/she has made improvements.Changes happen as client's feelings are validated, unresolved problems addressed, losses grieved and solutions implemented. De-stressors are also taught. Client begins to feel empowered to manage life again.

Is depression is holding you back from living a happy and fulfilled life? Often people feel depressed because their thoughts are dark and negative, catastrophic, black and white or over-generalized. I believe that these irrational negative thoughts can lead to a sense of hopelessness and helplessness. Clients find that changing their irrational thoughts for more realistic thoughts lifts a heavy weight and frees them to find more joy in life.

Depression has many forms; from a mild, passing funk, to a solid, dark cloud that follows you everywhere for days, weeks, or months on end. Depression is triggered both by confused thinking and by life events that we perceive as having no real or lasting solution or as being too painful to look at, let alone overcome. It is understandable that you will feel resistant to reaching out for help when you are depressed because being depressed means that some part of you believes there is no hope and no point in trying to change things. But there is! You just need someone who can quickly help you to see why you're stuck and teach you the simple steps to freedom. That's where we come in.

Depression robs us of so much in our lives; decision-making suffers, we lose the ability to motivate ourselves, we are generally sad, blue and quite often hopeless. There are numerous anti-depressant medications out there that work well, but quite often people don't want that route. Counseling can help, either on its own or in conjunction with medications. I use a mix of therapies and techniques to best suit the individual client. Cognitive Behavioral therapy is the traditional treatment for depression but there are some newer therapies showing some good results; mindfulness is one that helps treat the whole person, positivity psychology is showing that positivity can help change moods.

There are several common types of depression ,each defined by particular symptoms and duration (and identified as distinct diagnoses). However, you can still suffer from depression without fitting all of the class. Pain is a natural and unavoidable part of life, but suffering is optional.
