Though I've not had extensive training in eating disorders, I feel comfortable working with clients who are under a doctor's care while in counseling. All of us can work on becoming more mindful and aware of the choices we make in taking better care of our bodies especially when we are learning to manage our our food intake and exercise regimes. Clients are welcome to my practice to educate themselves on ways to better care for themselves nutritionally as well as managing positive self mental health care.

Eating Disorders are one of the many challenges that can arise when facing life stress. Though this is not a specialty area, I work with those struggling with anorexia, bulimia, overeating, and body image issues who also have struggles in other areas such as substance abuse, grief/loss, anger, depression, bipolar, and so forth. We will explore where the disorder comes from, healthy and unhealthy approaches to eating, and develop a lifestyle of recovery that makes food a friend rather than a foe.

The challenge to treating eating disorder is the mere fact that many of the clients are usually in treatment against their will. I see clients as young as seven years old with eating disorder. Using cognitive behavior therapy I deal with both their thinking and their actions. Negative critical thinking often results in feelings of shame, anxiety leading to the weight controlling behavior. It's an ugly cycle of continuous negative self evaluation. I work with individuals to examine specific factors that are maintaining their disorder. I also work closely with the referring physician to create a multidisciplinary treatment plan for the benefit of the client.
