Eating Disorder Treatment Near Houston, TX
Emilio Jimenez, MA, LPC
An eating disorder is when a person eats to satisfy a psychological need instead of a physical need. The person doesn't listen to bodily signals or perhaps is not aware of them. Eating disorders are usually classified as: anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, or binge eating disorder. The person may think that happiness only comes by loosing weight, or that their worth is based on how they look. Happiness and self-esteem comes from loving yourself for who you truly are. Recovery is possible with treatment. You can lead a happy and fulfilling life.

Breaking away from an eating disorder is a liberating experience. My clients are often surprised at how well they are doing even after only a few sessions. You will gain new abilities to manage the difficulties in life which will allow you to stop using the eating disorder to manage them for you. With these new skills you will feel more confident in yourself. Additionally, you will get to the underlying issues of this problem, so you can tackle them head on. You will know yourself better. I have guided many clients to untangling the often confusing aspects of these disorders. Recovery is possible!
David S. Wachtel, Ph. D.
I have evaluated and treated anorexia, bulimia, bulimarexia, and compulsive overeating for over 30 years. Of course there are unique, often life-threatening behaviors that are manifested in each of these. At the same time, they share in common pervasive patterns of avoiding the emotional pain and feelings of powerless over their lives except through feeling or trying to feel control over the one area--your body! I actively address the underlying traumatic experiences that contributed to your poor self-esteem and self-image, expectations of rejection and failure, and intense sadness, fear and anger that drive how you treat yourself and your body.
Kathy Pardue, MA, LPC
I help eating disordered clients develop a healthy relationship with food thru a non-deprivation approach. Clients reduce obsession on food (including over-restriction and over-eating) by refocusing on passions in life, healthy choices, and moderate exercise. Diets encourage dissociation and skew hunger cues...which continue the obsession. My clients get free from the fear of food, in anorexia, and the binge/purge pattern, in bulimia. My clients learn to take responsibility for noticing hunger/satiety and let go of dependence on diets to tell them what to eat. Fifty percent of college girls have an eating disorder due to the media focus.
Debbie Grammas, Ph.D.
Eating disorders and body image concerns are one of my areas of specialty. My dissertation was on male body image dissatisfaction, I have taught several workshops on the issue, conducted therapy with individuals and groups on the topic and will be teaching a class on Body Image at the University of St. Thomas in the fall. When working with clients with these types of issues, we will explore the ways in which disordered eating impacts their life and relationships, behaviors that maintain the disorder, ways to change these behaviors, and ways to cope with the emotional turmoil that occurs. Ways to understand the relationship between thoughts, feelings and behaviors will also be explored.
Rachel Eddins, M.Ed., LPC-S, CGP
If you feel out of control with food, find yourself obsessing over food and weight, have struggled with dieting for many years, and feel that food has taken over your life, we can help! Disordered eating can take many forms, but ultimately it is destructive both physically and emotionally. Therapy may involve working collaboratively with medical doctors, nutritionists and even group or family therapy to heal and recover from disordered eating behaviors and emotional pain. In addition to therapy, our practice offers a group program to help you make peace with food, recognize and replace emotional eating behaviors and learn to eat intuitively.
Dr. Kevin Fleming, Ph.D.
While most eating disorder issues are treated by cognitive behavioral methodologies or specialized outpatient/inpatient programs, Grey Matters International and the work of Kevin J. Fleming, PhD provide relief first and foremost for the brain of one suffering from an eating disorder----without giving them medication. We believe that the neural circuitries responsible for the compulsive behaviors with eating are not necessarily only a neurotransmitter issue but of overused neural networks that affect the harmonization, balance, and decisions of the whole brain.
