In our years of treating children, we have found it very valuable to treat the child while also providing family therapy. The parents have the most important role in the child's life and it is therefore invaluable to include the parents and often siblings to address the client's struggle. Our approach to family therapy is to meet with all members of the family who will be involved in the counseling separately or in smaller groups in order to get a clear picture of the identified problem. We then bring the family together to increase positive communication, encourage understanding and compassion among family members, strengthen relationships, and find a common goal among the family members.

Families have challenges for a variety of reasons. Sometimes parents struggle with kids because of challenges they experienced growing up. Other times families will struggle due to life changes including death, divorce, or remarriage. Whatever challenges your family might be facing we will work together to understand where they are coming from and develop practical, reasonable ways to start to turn them around.

I specialize in family therapy with families with children with learning disabilities and mental health issues. My approach focuses on how the parents can help their children deal with their issues. Many times, parenting can contribute to the disorder and your child can become more anxious and this can lead to poor school performance and problems with peer relationships. Together we will come up with strategies to help you and your child.

A family is a unique social environment, made up of the beliefs, personalities and values of it's members. Changes in one family member can affect everyone else in the group. Illness in one person may be a symptom of a larger problem within the family. Sometimes the best way to treat a problem with one person, is to engage the family as a whole. At Comprehensive Services, our trained therapists help families learn how they function as a unit, and how they can improve communication among the members. The goal is for the family to learn to work together, to deal with conflicts and develop strategies which let them resolve problems successfully.
