I approach family therapy using the family systems model. Most family issues are within the family systems, so we need to look at the family system and go through where the issue/issues may be. Most families like to point the finger at one person, and although that "one person" may be causing havoc, there usually is a reason for this. I use the Gottman method where I do not believe in corporal punishment, I believe in positive reinforcement (especially in young children through adolescent years). Focusing on the negative behaviors usually give us negative results. Focusing on positive behaviors will achieve the results we are looking for.
