Family conflict is a common issue which most of us are faced with at one time or another. I've been able to help hundreds of folks work through various types of family conflict by teaching them how to develop the healthiest boundaries possible to ensure they honour their feelings and needs while establishing a healthier family dynamic whenever possible. Many strategies are offered such as marital therapy, parenting strategies, family communication, development of healthy boundaries. I also have much knowledge and experience working with individuals and families who struggle with living in a family where narcissism or a psychopathy is present.

Our relationships in our families often bring you love, joy, and a sense of fulfillment. But when things aren't going well, your relationship can often be exhausting and painful. Family therapy provides a safe and fair space for all of you to be heard, and can help you discover and process the root of the issue. Family therapy is hard work, but when all individuals are willing to put the work in, great things can happen.

Families are complicated. This is why we work from a family systems approach as we do not believe that one person is the problem, but rather we look at ways to improve the overall family system so that things can flow more smoothly for all. Our family therapy can involve some, or all, family members. The focus of family therapy is to allow for everyone to feel heard, identify family strengths, and make adjustments for areas of improvement.

Family dynamics are complicated. Each family has established patterns, such as how everyone communicates within the family system, how they deal with stressful situations and conflict, their roles in the family unit and how members seek support from one another. While I do not offer family therapy sessions, my clinic, Psychotherapy Collective has many child and family therapists availability to schedule a free 15-minute consultation to ensure they are the proper fit for your journey. When working with families I aim to focus on common ground and shared hopes and goals. This sets the stage for collaboratively working through conflicts so that common goals can be achieved. Focusing on positive family experiences and strengths of the family are also helpful in reconnecting family members. Understanding relationship patterns and encouraging new ways of communicating and interacting often allows families to practice different ways of being with and understanding one another and can often alleviate tension for more pleasurable family experiences.

A family of four walks into a bar... (okay, therapist's office, fine) each with a different reason why they're there. Also, some of them don't want to be there at all! Get it! Actually, there's no punch-line, it's just normally how it goes. Regardless of what event brings them through the door, families often come in feeling divided and disconnected. That's why my job is to find the common ground so that everyone feels like they're being respected, heard, and have something to gain from the experience. My hope is that you will leave here: 1) Feeling more unified around a common goal 2) Clarity for how to move forward together 3) A renewed sense of what matters most
