Wouldn't it be great to know a few simple ways to work with challenging family dynamics? In counselling I offer up-to-date evidence-based options to help heal toxic family issues from the past that may be impacting us in the present: communication skills, addictions, boundaries, child abuse, sexual abuse, partner abuse. You can have the healthy relationships you want for yourself and for family members - with counselling support I work with you step-by-step to replace the old toxic patterns with respect, love, and optimism.

When more people are involved in the therapy it often is more successful. That's family therapy in a nut shell. I often see people alone but when I can see a couple, or multiple members of the same family - change happens much more rapidly and more gets done in less time. Whether you are the identified patient - the one with "the problem(s)"- or you are a family member brought in to consult on "the problem(s)"- your participation is very helpful. That doesn't mean that we always get everyone together in the same room at the same time (although that is likely to happen at some point). Often there are individual sessions and couples or parent-child group sessions that support the process.

Your family is stressed, perhaps more than ever before, faced with continual change. My goal is to help you become a team again to find the strength which helps you make effective changes. I believe family therapy must go beyond the individual and focus on the family systems. Jungian psychotherapeutic counselling combines respect for the images that arise from the collective unconscious with an appreciation of the complexity of life within the family. We explore all relevant issues: parenting, divorce, separation, the struggle to balance home and career, and other issues as they appear in our work. I do family counselling locally in Halifax, Nova Scotia and also by e-counselling.
