Everything relates to everything else, and families in all shapes and forms are no exception. Different ages, developmental levels in children, genders and or cultures need to be considered, when we try to establish a loving, respectful. proactive and supportive family team. I do believe, that the HOW, WHAT, WHEN and WHY of communication is what makes or breaks a family .... any relationship. Allow me to help you establish reasonable goals and find manageable solutions to challenges, which will improve your family's wellbeing. 905-842-3626
Mary Phillips, M.Div., RMFT, RSW
Family relationships can be a source of comfort and support to the various family members. However family can also be a source of great stress when difficulties arise caused by behavioural issues or conflict within the family which disrupts normal family functioning. When this occurs, it can be helpful to involve the family or some of the family members in the counselling process to deal with these issues.
As I have training and expereince in Family Therapy I will be happy to discuss your family situation with you to see if family therapy could be helpful for your situation. Do not hesitate to call me at 905-849-4242 extension 48
Ivana Szakal, BEd. MA.
Systematic therapy helps to construct more healthy relationships, enhance positive family dynamic and encouraging relationships. I provide family support with the focus on solutions and the most efficient results. Therapy helps to increase self-esteem of children and improve parenting success. Challenging relationships can be shifted when family members apply effective communication and respect. My special interest is assisting to families who have children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. I support them to cope with anxiety and stress.
Gabrielle Pitt, RECE, RSW
Families can be a safe haven or secure base. However families can also be a source of conflict and stress. Over time, families can develop patterns of coping which may not be supportive of the individual members or the family as a whole. As a compassionate family therapist, I create a safe space in which each member is respected and heard. I guide families in working through conflict, healing and reconnecting, building on strengths, and regaining supportive attachment relationships.
Reta Walker, Ph.D, MCC
Families don't have to be perfect but when a family functions well, parents and children fulfill their roles, enjoy their life together and develop in a healthy way. A healthy family means that all of the members are involved, children are empowered and self esteem develops. As a therapist, I can assess family issues, direct you in appropriate roles and responsibilities and help you communicate more effectively.

The family is a system, and each person influences that system and is, in turn, affected in their own unique way by that system. I have worked with families, be they the entire family, or part of the family. I often work with the participants individually for a session (or more) on their own, bringing them back together in order to help guide them through communicating, problem-solving, and supporting one another.

Sometimes the difficulties occurring in a family are systemic - which means that there is not really a 'problem person' but a family interaction malfunction. In family counselling, it is understood that everyone in the family impacts and affects everyone else and the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. It is also understood that the way to 'fix' a family problem is not by simply changing specific behaviours, but by changing the structure of the family. This can be a very important process for the many different types of families that we have in our society.

All families are the same and all families are different. Therapy is based on the family as an organised social unit that goes through phases of gradual but emotionally-charged change. Roles and functions often collide with personal needs and changing individual needs and hormonal behaviours that will clash with parenting styles triggering power struggles. Family dynamics must find a way to balance the conflicting childrens' needs to assert distinct identities while integrating conflicting parental values.
Family therapy is difficult but growth-inducing for all but I find it helpful to see individuals
separately for them to express ideas and feelings freely as it helps with communication.
Andrea Ramsay Speers, MA
Being a parent is hard. There are no instruction manuals and no guidebooks. We all become parents aware that it's the most important job we'll ever do, so now is the time to stop feeling frustrated and anxious, burned out and ineffective. My experience in working with parents and my training in solid parenting theory will combine with your vision for your family and your own personal approach to parenting to create the family harmony you're looking for. End the fighting, nagging, and disconnection with personalized strategies and tools designed just for your family. Don't let another day slip by feeling as though you can't get through to those you love the most. Your family is worth it!

"The idea that one of the best things you can do for your child is to create a loving relationship with your partner is not sentimental ... it's a scientific fact" - Susan Johnson, Hold Me Tight. More and more we realize that love is not a total mystery and that it can be scientifically understood. I will help you recognize how you are connected to and dependent on your partner in much the same way that a child is dependent on a parent for nurturing, soothing, and protection. The way to strengthen families is to build secure emotional connections, and for members to be emotionally open, attuned and responsive to each other.
