I process with the client verbally the loss in regards to family of origin whether it be relatives, close friends, or work relationships. In grief and loss feelings of isolation and aloneness along with shock and disbelief can cause us to shut down or deny the pain and emptiness inside. It is normal to have intense feelings or no feelings at all in the early stages of loss. When we cut off or deny our feelings we cut off the recovery process.
