Much of life, whether we like it or not, involves saying goodbye. We say it to family members, to beloved friends, and even to careers and dreams. Sometimes we have a say in how our goodbyes happen; more often they’re forced upon us. Through Grief and Loss Counseling, I help clients learn how to express their grief and remorse in healthy, productive ways. They’re able to honor the departed and grieve their losses, while, at the same time, re-gain the clarity, energy and resilience needed for the life that’s before them. Deep sadness turns to hope and renewed purpose as they honor the past without staying stuck there.

The loss of a loved one, a friend,or a relationship can be devastating. Grief is a natural process which helps us recover after a loss. I join clients as they journey through their grief, celebrate their loved one and decide how best to remember them in their daily life. I counsel clients who have lost spouses, parents, friends, children and teenagers. If you have experienced a loss, I would be honored to join you on your journey of grief and remembrance.

I believe grief is something many of us experience but not something we must endure forever or even for long periods of time. During sessions for grief I help my client understand loss from a different perspective, move forward in their life and reconnect to the positive times they had with their loved ones. And for some they may even find a connection with that person in the here and now.

There are times in everyone's life when we go through the loss of someone or something that we love. While the grieving process is common to all of us it is also very personal. Each person reacts to grief in their own unique way based on the nature of the relationship, the specific circumstances, and our own personality. I will help you through this process in a way that brings dignity and respect to that relationship. A path of meaning and healing is possible and you do not have to walk that path alone.

Grief and loss. I support individuals and families in releasing their emotions and encourage them to identify and share the strengths of their lost loved one. This helps to create a special way to honor and remember their loved one, so that the spirit of the loved one can carry on in their lives, even though the person is no longer physically present. If an individual has difficult memories that emerged in their relationship with a loved one, I encourage them to release that pattern within themselves and replace it with positive growth. In this way, the person can be honored and the impact of the loss is greatly reduced.

Experiencing grief and loss is a universal experience. The process of grief can feel overwhelming and isolating for many. While no two people go through grief the same way, understanding what you are feeling and educating yourself about the grief process is benefical. Through education, you can move through your individual grief process and restore a balanced life again.

Frequently, grief and loss begins with shock. There are two forms of grief and loss. Anticipatory grief, which is just as it sounds. When a loved one is very ill we anticipate their decline. If a loved one is suddenly murdered or dies in an accident this is different from anticipatory grief. Those who are in my care take as much time as needed to work through grief and loss issues. Gradually, their pain becomes, "different" and acceptance slowly becomes part of their reality.
