I am the only person in Western New York that practices the Contemporary approach of Self Psychology. This approach is very popular in larger cities but has not taken over our geographical area yet. It is based on understanding and empathy and not the old approach of confrontation and invalidation: which only makes patients angry, understandably angry, causing them to be given nasty unflattering diagnoses when the therapist does not know how to understand this anger.
