What is psychotherapy? In ancient Greek, the word PSUKHE - "breath, life, soul" joins with THERAPEIA - "healing". Healing the soul; Life renewal; Attention to breath. I think of healing as repairing something that got off track somewhere along the line. In attending to soul, we do not need to eliminate symptoms nor become someone different. But allowing all of the self to be present, even the shadow parts, we understand more clearly what is is that is causing suffering. This insight and understanding shows us where transformation is possible, and this transformative potential is always a unique response to individual brokenness.

You don't need to do it all alone. And turns out, as more and more brain research is showing us, you're not meant to. Many of our original wounds, with echoes in our current lives, come from past and often early relationships. And while there are many valuable paths to healing, psychotherapy provides a special safe relationship in which these past experiences can be rewired and new aspects of yourself can be discovered or rediscovered. With compassionate reflection, encouragement, and challenge, transformation can happen!

In my psychotherapy practice I create a safe, non-judgmental and compassionate space where you can experience emotional and spiritual healing at your own pace. As a therapist I use attentive listening and active discussion to build a secure, caring and thoughtful connection between myself and the people I work with. I believe that psychotherapy can help dissolve negative emotional beliefs that keep us stuck in unhealthy relating patterns, and help you engage with your intimate relationships, family and community in vital, healthy and creative ways. Depending on the needs of the person I am working with I may incorporate expressive arts, meditation and movement into our work together.

The Greek meaning of psychotherapy is to "tend soul." Talking to a therapist, working with dreams and symptoms, and listening to yourself can improve your life. I help people make choices from a place that resonates with their deepest self. My goal for you is well-being, happiness, and meaning in your career, relationships and creative pursuits. Therapy can give you a new perspective on long-standing or new problems and dynamics. We look at the past or stay in the present as needed. There is no judgment or assessment simply a dialogue to focus on you and your own healing process.

Beginning therapy, especially if you have never tried it before, can be intimidating and can require courage and a leap of faith. This is why I offer a free 20 minute initial phone consultation, and consider the first session to be a time for the client and therapist to get to know each other, and to address all questions about the therapeutic process.I believe psychotherapy is about growth and change, as well as enhancing your own internal wisdom to help you lead a fuller and more satisfying life. I believe client/therapist fit is very important, and believe that active collaboration towards agreed upon goals is a useful first step in the healing process towards change.

With compassion, I provide a safe and peaceful place to heal. I help my clients recognize their true potential while helping them overcome their emotional difficulties. I use Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, which has a strong basis in science, to overcome depression, anxiety, and a wide range of challenges. Recognizing that past trauma can often create roadblocks to achieving one's greatest potential, I chose to get trained n Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). This method has allowed me to help expedite the healing process from past traumas and deep emotional wounds that once caused them to feel stuck and helpless.

From the minute you walk in the room, I will be collaborating with you to help you feel better and find ways to solve your problems. Whatever happened to you in the past or present time that has put you in the stuck state you are now in, therapy can help you to see why your situation is not hopeless. Change is always possible, if you are willing to work for it.
Most people start psychotherapy at the point where they, their friends and their families can no longer provide the answers they need. I will listen to you and work with you to find solutions to the situations that are troubling you most.

My approach to psychotherapy is one of acceptance and empathy. My goal is to gain an understanding of the client's experience and to validate their feelings. My clients often tell me at the end of treatment that they experience their time with me that the sense of care they received from me greatly contributed to their ability to move forward in the matter they sought help for. Clients seeking therapy with me can expect to come into an environment that fosters safety and trust as a platform to develop positive change and growth.

I practice psychotherapy from a engaged, kind and collaborative stance. I have trained in several contemporary and well-researched psychotherapy modalities that are designed to maximize both a sense of safety and trust in the therapy relationship, as well as demonstrative, positive change in a client's life. Many clients who have found previous psychotherapy less than effective for them find that they are able to meet their therapeutic goals in their work with me.

Psychotherapy is a really scary name for what is the therapuetic style that MFTs learn in school. All that it means is therapy for the mind. How can you benefit from therapy of the mind?
Just like we exercise our legs, arms, and academic brain capacity, our emotions, logic, traumas, celebrations and hardships need to be processed too! Psychotherapy helps alleviate stress, provide insight and help you live the live you've been wanting to live.
