Mental Health in Coronado

California is a beautiful state and Coronado is a great city to live in. The population is only about 23,300 citizens and the area is well educated.2 Surprisingly, divorce rates are low, drug abuse, and violence problems are also very uncommon in this city. The people here are generally well satisfied with their lives, their careers, and the world around them, which is not something that many people can say. However, if you consider the fact that the area is well educated and the communities are small, this is not quite so shocking. The government works to keep the area clean, safe, and secure for all of the people who reside here.

A local non-profit association who is working to help the community's mental health needs, Mental Health Systems has a great program called "Caring Helpers" if you are interetsed in getting involved in your community. The goals are to develop youth and adult leadership with a focus on the Hispanic and Asian/Pacific Islander communities, provide culturally inclusive training to educate and de-stigmatize the challenges of mental health, and support youth and adults in recognizing their strengths and finding a way to give back to their communities. For more information on impacting your community and beating mental illness stigma, please call 858-292-0903.4

Current Education

As of right now, this area can boast of great schools, quality education, and intelligent citizens. In this city, approximately 60% of the population, over the age of 25 years, has at least a bachelors degree. Elementary school through high school also ranks at the top of the safest school districts.5 Great education and a safe environment are keys in reaching mental health and a sense of security, especially in young people. The community has also done a great job in reaching out to those who are struggling and making sure that there are resources available to everyone who may need them. There are also mental health centers throughout the city to help those who have mental illnesses.6
