The city's proximity to the University of California at Los Angeles also makes it an attractive option for students who want to live off campus. Mental Health in West Los Angeles

In Los Angeles County, one in five children live in poverty. Nearly 60,000 people do not have a permanent home, nearly 7,000 of which are veterans of the U.S. armed forces. Furthermore, just 61 percent of students in the Los Angeles Unified School District graduate from high school. As a result, these populations have increased difficulty finding adequate employment, permanent housing, and access to medical and mental health care services.2

Children and teenagers who are experiencing grief and loss can get support services at their school as part of the school-based support services provided by Our House. The groups provide a safe, caring place where children can express and work through their emotions. Groups meet for ten weeks, during which kids learn resiliency skills, learn how to express their emotions, and experience support from their peers. All school-based groups are provided free of charge. For more information about Our House's in-school groups, call 1-888-417-1444.3

Current Education

Human services workers who wish to advance their education can enroll in graduate and doctoral degree programs at Argosy University. Both programs provide students with foundational knowledge of clinical psychology. Academically challenging classes provide students with the knowledge and skills they need to be effective counselors. Field experiences allow students to hone their craft while under the supervision of experienced clinicians. For more information about these degree programs, call 310-531-9700.4
