Throughout human history, migration has been a fact of life. However, as a result of globalization, it currently affects more people than ever before. Amnesty International ("People on the move", n.d.) reports that more than 230 million people live outside their country of birth. That is about 3% of the world's global population. And that number grows every day.

The questioning of the suitability of The Star-Spangled Banner as the National Anthem is nothing new in American history. Colin Kaepernick, a quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers, has refused to stand in honor of the flag that he believes is a symbol subjugation. His actions have reignited lingering questions regarding racism and patriotism.

In 1957 the movie, “The Three Faces of Eve” starring Joanne Woodward had a tremendous impact on the viewing audience. Ms Woodward won an academy award for her performance.
“Eve” was actually a woman named Chris Sizemore who suffered from what was then called “Multiple Personality Disorder”.

In 1938 Abel Meerpol, who was white and Jewish, wrote a poem entitled “Strange Fruit”. He added music in 1939. When Billie Holiday sang it at Cafe Society in Greenwich Village, which was the first integrated club in New York, it became a passionate and disturbing anthem for the Civil Rights movement.
The “Strange Fruit” referred to the lynchings of black men in the South.

On his program, The Daily Show, on Comedy Central, Jon Stewart put up with little or no “bull”. He gleefully punched holes in the comments of the pompous and hypocritical. He maintained an enthusiastic following for sixteen years.
