Spring Cleaning: How to Release Old Things you have been hanging onto both Physically and Emotionally?

July 17, 2014 02:55 by Theravive

Nature’s New Year begins with fresh flowers blooming to bring hope and happiness to this world. With such a wonderful beginning, life also gives us an opportunity to cast off all the negative memories and embrace good things. Let the spring light shine through your soul and clear away the shadows, which have been haunting you mentally, emotionally, and physically. It is the perfect time to shed the winter blues and come forward with a revitalized and reenergized mind.

Physical Wellbeing

Our bodies are left sluggish and stiff after months of winter comfort eating and disinclination to go outdoors. Many people even end up carrying a couple of extra pounds because food is what kept them warm during the cold season. Start your spring cleaning program by physical detoxification and exercise. If you are overloaded with toxic foods, drinks, and thoughts, you will never be able to feel good. To maintain an optimal balance in life, these cleansing guidelines will help lead you towards bliss.

Are you Eating Right?

A diet plan comprising of healthy vegetables and fresh fruits is a great way to kick-start the blossoming period. It will awake your senses and rejuvenate your body. You may also consider getting professional help to plan a diet that is more appropriate for your physical condition. Take a stroll around the health food stores and pick up the new season’s offerings. Experts suggest seasonal buying as this does not only provide your body with essential nutrients, but also keeps your grocery bills affordable. Herbal tea, filtered water, coconut water, yerba mate, and green juice are excellent choices to keep the body hydrated and toxic free (The Fertility-Related Treatment Choices of Cancer Patients: Cancer-Related Infertility and Family Dynamics, 2011).

Indulge in some Physical Activity

If you desire to stay active and alert, spare some time for workout, sports, exercise, yoga, or any physical exercise. It will ease your stiff joints, improve blood circulation, relax those tight muscles, and calm down tensed nerves. Consider joining aerobics or yoga classes to keep your body in shape. While all other activities will support a healthy wellbeing, yoga in particular boosts the detoxification process that will get you all set for a wonderful year beginning. Yoga is an effective way to deal with daily stressors and emotional setbacks (Diyankova and Asheville, 2010).

Spring Clean your Mind just like Your Body

Unless you don’t get rid of the debris from the past that keeps swirling around your thoughts, there are chances you will never be able to move ahead in life. Somehow, the throbbing memories will continue to pop up as distractions.

Setting a cleansing goal is crucial to success. How important are the things that you have been hanging onto all this time? Are they more important than your happiness and health? The aim is not to eradicate the old habits, patterns, and incidents; your plan is to change the ‘focus’ so that you can pay attention to things that are more significant. Just like physical stuff, unless you do not throw away old beliefs, you will never be able to make room for new things. Negative emotions and bad memories stop us from being who we are and achieve what we want in life (Harris, 2007).

One reason why many people are unable to move on is their guilt of letting go; set yourself free and be willing to forgive yourself. Believe in yourself and explore your capabilities; the ambitious energy is there within you (Brockway, 2014). Cultivate your dreams for a positive path in life.

Moving towards Emotional Healing

Once you have tossed away drama that no longer has any meaning or purpose in your life, you will be more motivated and will be able to see more clearly. Creating a change in your life requires determination and willpower; and that can only be achieved if you realize your value. Blow away the dust of the past to live the life you want.

Make New Friends

When it comes to getting rid of the past, you will have to change your friends and company also. In some cases, it is easier said than done as these people might be your co-workers or may be immediate family members. However, keeping a distance will do well. Remember that emotional pain exists only when we keep on reminding ourselves of its existence. Pain is inevitable, but suffering is optional and discretionary (Germer, 2009).
