You and your partner/spouse will participate in skill-building exercises and role-plays together, view videos of couples demonstrating each point, and receive one-on-one support not only from another married couple, but from a married couple that is also experts in the field of couples therapy.

The Leaders

Robin Menard MSW RCC and Sol Menard RPCc have a partnership in their private counselling practice: A Path of Heart Counselling Services. Robin has her Masters degree in Social Work and is Registered as a Clinical Counsellor with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors. She has three years of full-time experience as clinical counsellor. Sol is a Registered Professional Counsellor and Psychotherapist and is certified with the Canadian Professional Counselling Association. Robin and Sol Menard have done extensive advanced training in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT). They have found incredible success in using EFT with the couples they work with. Some of the benefits include: deeper intimacy, increased safety and security, increased compassion and understanding, the ability for couples to listen to each other's feelings and be validated by their partner, learn how to express needs in the relationship, reduced conflicts, and the ability to learn and use tools/strategies of communication.

Who Should Attend

All couples, married or in a committed relationship, who want to improve their relationship are invited to attend the couples group, whether together or separated, with a few noted exceptions below. The group is designed for couples only, so it is not possible to attend alone without your partner/spouse. If one partner is hesitant about attending, you may wish to share Dr. Johnson’s book Hold Me Tight to increase motivation. While the educational portion is presented to all couples, sharing or public disclosure is optional. The number of couples attending is small, providing an intimate setting. Childcare options are not provided.

The Healthy Relationships Workshop is not appropriate for couples when: (1) one partner is explicitly not committed to working on the relationship (2) there is a pattern of significant physical or emotional abuse in the relationship, or (3) one or both partners have significant untreated mental health problems such as schizophrenia or suicidal depression, or (4) one or both partners are suffering from an addiction and not taking steps towards recovery.

For more information, or to book a spot in the group please call Robin or Sol Menard at (250) 863-7863. Please call early as seating will be limited.
