We want connection- a space to be vulnerable and truly seen. But emotional intimacy is risky, and that scares us, especially with a difficult history! Instead of being vulnerable, we build up walls to protect us. Let's break down the walls and build a loving connection.

Therapist Los Angeles, UCLA, LA

Pacific Palisades has many luxurious homes and condos, and many places here are affordable only for people who are financially well off. Students at UCLA frequently live in Culver City as a means to avoid the high cost of living closer to the university. For a quiet time of reflection and meditation, a visit to the Los Angeles National Cemetery to honor the memories of loved ones can bring a sense of peace and connection to greater meaning in life. Near Brentwood is the Veterans Affairs Healthcare Center helping those who have served in the armed forces. The population here is around 27,000 people,1 with a very active and thriving neighborhood due to the presence of UCLA.

Marriage and Couples Mental Health in Pacific Palisades

Pacific Palisades and other communities on the west side of Los Angeles have a lower rate of domestic violence than any other area of the city. Of the more than 10,200 incidents reported in 2011, just 1,424 came from the West Bureau, which includes Pacific Palisades. However, despite the lower rates, it is still far too high and many families, particularly women and children, are often the most likely to be affected. Long-lasting effects can include emotional difficulties, such as anger and anxiety, as well as a lack of trust in others. In order to repair such damage, quality mental health services are needed.2

Peace Over Violence is committed to the prevention of all kinds of violence. The center provides many programs to families in the greater Los Angeles Area. Emotional support is offered through the agency's emergency hotline. Peace Over Violence also offers many outreach, intervention and prevention programs that seek to help underserved populations get the help they need. Advocacy services help individuals navigate the legal processes required to obtain restraining orders, receive justice, and protect their rights. Additional information about these and other services is available by calling 213-955-9090.3

Family Services and Assistance Programs

Children and families in need of assistance with food, shelter, clothing and mental health services can find what they need at the Ocean Park Community Center. The center provides services for homeless adults, displaced families and battered women and children. Case management is available, as are crisis intervention services. Center staff helps each individual ascertain their strengths in order to develop a plan for self-sufficiency. Nearly 300 people are served each day at the center, and many thousands more find the help they need at one of Ocean Park's other facilities. For more information, call 310-264-6646.4
