The town of Burlington, ON was established in 1915 and has a history of being strong supporters of the military with 300 local men volunteering for the first world war.  As the city grew, it developed into a city in 1974 as the population reached 100,000.  The population of Burlington continues to grow at a rate faster than the Canadian national average.  According to the recent census, almost 80% of Burlington residents consider themselves Christian.  This strong religious following includes denomination of Catholic, Protestant, and Anglican.  Burlington has an average age of over 40 which is higher than the national average; this is reflected in the population of seniors which exceeds 15% of the population. Over 90% of the population is Caucasian.  The school system includes both English and French options as well as a number of Catholic school options.  The city of Burlington does not have any Universities, individuals looking to continue their education can go to nearby Toronto to located post-secondary options.

The economy of Burlington is quite strong with ties to the Greater Toronto area and Hamilton.  The geography of Burlington creates a strong and secure economic future for this area.  There are a number of large industries in Southern Ontario which is Canada’s biggest consumer market as well as the location of the transportation infrastructure for the area. Aside from a strong economic forecast, this city is home to various festivals throughout the year including a Ribfest and a music festival.  These residents enjoy a great recreational environment, a strong economic base, and a diverse educational system.1 Situated on the edge of Lake Ontario, the residents can partake on a number of water sports throughout the summer as well as ice skating in the winter when the lake freezes completely.  There are also a number of trails and parks throughout the city to bring the residents into the outdoors.

Since Burlington is located near some large industries in southern Ontario, the city’s economy is fairly diverse including the relationship Burlington has with the Greater Toronto Area and Hamilton, not to mention the intricate transportation infrastructure.  The main industry around Burlington, and is attributed to the majority of their growth, is the automotive and manufacturing industries.  Since the city is suburban, it is very heavily car dependent.  If you are feeling secluded and isolated in your relationship as a couple, marriage counselling is a new beginning towards togetherness.  When communication and relationship rebuilding start taking place, therapy with your marriage counsellor Burlington ON becomes a freeing experience of growth and positive change.  The political structure in Burlington includes a mayor, four members of the Progressive Conservative Party of Ontario and one member of the Conservative Party of Canada that represents Burlington in the House of Commons.  An interesting tidbit—John Turmel, who has run as an independent candidate over several elections, holds the Guinness Book of World Records for the most elections contested and the most elections ran and lost as an independent candidate.

Burlington is an area along the coast, located in Ontario. It has a population of a little over 175,000 people living there; the city has seen almost a 7% growth in five years and it is expected to continue growing for many more years.2 Although this city is a great place to live, there are still problems for families and couples who are living here.

Domestic abuse and poverty are still problems here, and they are things that many families face constantly. No one should have to live in fear of their partner or of their parent, and for this reason there is always help available. The Halton Women's Place has a shelter in Burlington that provides emergency shelter, as well as crisis services. Family Services and Assistance Programs

There is also financial, medical, and physical assistance for families who are struggling in other ways. For example, Community Living Burlington is a dedicated organization that has been around for almost sixty years and provide many different services to those in need.4 Halton Family Services is another group in Burlington that regularly gives mental help and counseling to over 2,500 people across the area. Their clinical staff all has at least a master of social work degree and are well equipped to help people with any mental health concerns. They provide budget and debt management, parenting, marital stress, separation and divorce, abuse problems, stress, depression, drug abuse, and many other things. These programs and many others are available to help families and couples who are in need.
