Once clients are able to identify this they can better understand the motivation behind continuing to use. As a therapist who has worked with both teens and adults with substance use disorders and addiction for years, I can say I truly enjoy being a part of the healing that takes place in recovery. Addiction is still one of the most stigmatized mental health issues, and still somehow seen as a personal flaw more so than a brain process.
