As an experienced Christian Counselor and ordained pastor, over the last 15 years I’ve been blessed to help hundreds of men find hope and healing using both psychological and Biblical principles. I believe that Christ is the ultimate source of hope and healing in this life. But I also believe that he’s given us the gift of rational minds, able to discern scientific and psychological truths built into the fabric of His amazing creation. My approach is grounded firmly in Scripture, but I don’t use Scripture as a weapon. You don’t need more guilt, but rather, a reminder of God’s promises and a compassionate guide to support you.

Our deepest wounds are often those that are at the hands of another person. Human brokenness is the root of our need for redemption. This holds true in therapy and growth work as well. When we encounter our deep wounds, we encounter our need for our Big God. Here, we are able to reconcile the broken our hurt parts of our ourselves. Dr. Vanes been a pastor's wife for 15 years and is trained in integrated counseling with Masters degrees in Theology, Clinical Psychology, and Intercultural Studies from Fuller Theological Seminary, and a Master's in Clinical Psychology: Marriage and Family Therapy from Azusa Pacific Universality. When people of faith claim a connection to their God, they benefit from using a counselor that can frame their struggles in words that are reflected in their faith. With an understanding that our lives fall under a Creator they are connected to, it is important that the counseling process acknowledge, support and guide in light of this connection. I have been ordained as Minister of Word and Sacrament in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). I trained at both Perkins School of Theology (at SMU) and Amberton University. My counseling practice is a "Validated Ministry" within Grace Presbytery.

I was raised in a Christian household myself so I have an appreciation for the values instilled by religion, the importance of tradition, and the strength of community. My approach to counseling is humanistic and welcoming of all spiritualities. Though I do not incorporate any specific pastoral counsel, I encourage my spiritual clients to draw on their beliefs during the counseling process.

Christians are unique because they are given a new nature upon conversion, it is said that they are "born again." A Christian is now able to participate in the Divine Nature, with Christ. It is helpful for the Christian to learn the difference between the "old self" and the "new self" that we have in Christ. As the Christian learns to increasingly dwell in the new self, learning to rest in Christ's work and ability, they are able to experience a new peace and freedom. This freedom will present as the fruit of the Spirit, and is a free gift given of Christ resultant of his sacrifice and resurrection.
