Thanks for stopping by my profile! My name is Evan Wick and I am a Registered Social Worker and Psychotherapist.

I haven't always sat in an office providing counselling. These are some of my past roles:

A public school teacher in the remote Northwest Territories; a youth shelter counsellor; involved in wilderness therapy; a child and family therapist at community health centres; a supervisor of an addiction counselling team.

These days, I maintain a very small and focused private practice as I balance my other role (and passion!) as a full-time Professor to undergraduate students in the mental health and addiction field. You may notice in my online presence that I focus on couples therapy in my practice, but I continue to have a strong passion and deep experience in individual therapy. For individual clients within my practice, my focus is unique.

With me you'll find that I approach therapy in the following ways:

-Solution-focused, goal-oriented, and short term perspective.

I encourage individual clients to commit to at least 6-10 sessions of weekly or bi-weekly.

I embrace the reality that many people need to consider their own insurance coverage to determine length of counselling. Instead of seeing this as a limitation, I feel there is immense benefit when we plan for this, instead of individuals simply dropping out of therapy unexpectedly.

We plan with the end in mind so that we can set clear, attainable, and realistic goals for your situation.

Here are some examples of why individuals might contact me:

-Feelings of depression
-Feelings of anxiety, including social anxiety
-Addictions or substance-use concerns (including but not limited to alcohol, weed, internet, pornography, sex)
-ADHD (inattentive, hyperactive, or combined-type), and its effects on both self and relationships/work/life
-difficulty in achieving or beginning fitness/health goals
-Being "stuck in a rut"
-Difficulties achieving your version of success in school or work
-Self-worth and troubles with identity
-Barriers in achieving goals in work, life, or hobbies of interest (such as sports pursuits).

Fees: $180 individual/50 minute psychotherapy session $200 couples/50 minute psychotherapy session

Coaching fee: $180/50 minute session. Coaching fees are fully covered by your insurance with me as would be counselling/psychotherapy services. Please connect to discuss more around coaching vs psychotherapy, and why I deem my coaching services to fall under psychotherapy coverage.

In my practice I utilize a solution focused brief therapy (SFBT) approach to our work together. I incorporate aspects of cognitive behavioural therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, narrative therapy, and where appropriate emotion-focused therapy. I am wholly committed to meeting you where you are at in your journey, and making realistic goals to move toward your preferred future. I believe in the value and practicality of what short-term psychotherapy can bring to a person's life. I also take very seriously the time and resources people have to give toward psychotherapy and/or coaching services. My goal is always to plan collaboratively with you and have the "end in mind" from the moment we begin our journey together.
