Philosophy and Specialty...
I believe in the potential for people to heal and have the life they want and deserve.  I work with individuals, couples, families, adolescents, and children struggling with a variety of emotional and behavioral issues.  I provide services that range from therapy for depression and grief counseling to parenting support and couples/marriage counseling.  I believe in being in the moment with each client, providing a comfortable and safe therapeutic environment to promote personal growth.  It is important to understand a person's social and family background and how those affect their daily life and functioning.

Theoretical Orientation...
I strive to assist individuals in changing negative thoughts and behaviors to more positive alternatives.  I offer a highly personalized approach tailored to each client's individual needs to help attain the growth they strive to achieve.  My treatment approaches include: Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Emotionally Focused, Family Systems, Mindfulness, Relational, Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Existential, and Psychodynamic.

What Makes My Practice Different...
I work from a private office in Virginia Beach.  This allows me to offer flexible day and evening hours, as well as last minute emergency appointments.  I do not leave my patients sitting in a crowded waiting room.  You arrive at your chosen session time, and I promptly greet you at the door.  This provides additional confidentiality that you would not receive from therapy in a large agency.  I dedicate a good amount of time out of therapy, researching and developing skills training and coping strategies that are best suited for each of my patients.  Individualized personal care is priceless.

Educational Background...
I received my Bachelor's degree from The University of Virginia, where I focused my studies on child and adolescent psychology.  I went on to obtain my Master's degree in Counseling and Psychotherapy from Old Dominion University.  I have continued my post graduate studies at Regent University, focusing on couples and family counseling, crisis and trauma, and diagnosis and treatment planning strategies.  My education has given me extensive experience in working with individuals of different ages, backgrounds, cultures, and genders in exploring their individualized concerns and working to achieve their personal goals.

I believe that everyone has a story to tell.  Counseling helps you understand your past so that you can write your future.  I strive to help all of my patients understand where they have been, what has worked and what has not worked for them, and choose their future path.  Honesty and hope are the backbone of great therapy.  I look forward to working with you.
