Mental Health in Pasadena

Pasadena has seen significant growth over the last twenty years. As more and more people have moved to the area, local mental health agencies have struggled to keep up with the demand for their services. As a result, many people who need counseling and related therapeutic services go without. The need for care is present for children, adults, and families, and especially so for underserved groups such as minorities and the homeless.2

The Pasadena Mental Health Service was founded in 1965, and in the years since, has helped countless thousands of Pasadena citizens with mental health issues through their many support services. Parents can take a number of parenting classes in order to brush up on their parenting skills. Children who are involved in the criminal justice system can participate in the Youth Accountability Program to get back on track. Family support services are also available. For additional information, call the Pasadena Mental Health Service at 626-798-0907.3

Classroom learning is supplemented by field experiences that give students on-the-job training. Multiple areas of concentration are available, as are several dual-degree options. Online courses help those who cannot commute to continue their studies. For further information, call the USC Department of Social Work at 213-740-2013.4
