Regina enjoys an abundance of outdoor recreation throughout the year.  Numerous parks and green spaces provide biking paths, cross-country skiing venues, boating and skating and toboggan runs on Wascana  Lake.  The city has five municipal golf courses, ball diamonds, picnic grounds and stock car racing on a 1/3 mil paved oval.. A half hour drive from the city provides camping country with winter ski resorts and fishing lakes. In 2004 the Wascana Lake project drained and dredged the facility to deepen it and add a new island, a promenade, water fountains and a waterfall to aerate the lake.  The Western Canada Summer Games were hosted by Regina in 1975, 1987 and 2005.
