Wichita is located in south central Kansas, and has around 385,000 residents.1 The city is also located along the Arkansas River. The area has grown into a cultural and entertainment center, with many different options for adults, kids, and families. The area has an average temperature in the wintertime of around 20 degrees and an average temperature in the summertime in the 90's. Current Initiatives

Wichita State University's Center for Community Support and Research has partnered with mental health providers, consumer organizations, and advocacy groups to undertake a number of initiatives to improve, support, and extend community mental health services available to residents in the Wichita area. Most of the Center's work involves educating practitioners and other behavioral health workers so that they can deliver high-quality care. Additionally, the Center works to educate consumers about their rights and responsibilities with regard to mental health care and helps their voices to be heard when policies and programs are being developed.
