Alena Davis View Specialties

As a Marriage and Family Therapist, I specialize in working with adolescents and young adults, as well as adults, couples and families. With adolescents and teenagers, I work to create an environment of safety where they will feel seen and heard. Because of this, I am able to connect in a way that fosters trust and respect which is needed for change. With families, I am skilled at helping parents and children form stronger connections and I teach them how to communicate in healthier ways. With couples, I am trained in Emotionally Focused Therapy, which targets the love and bonding process and helps couples heal from conflict and learn to cultivate the love and friendship needed for deep intimacy.

I work to help all of my clients understand the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, and how these connections impact their sense of self worth and their relationships with others. Frequently, we are our own worst critics because we are holding onto the negative messages that we got in childhood. Bringing awareness to these false beliefs is the first step towards developing self-compassion and creating healthier relationships with ourselves and others. Understanding and healing from our childhood wounds is a vital part of creating a more rich and meaningful life.

Overall, I use a solution focused, short-term therapy approach and I work from a systemic angle, which means I consider how your family, peer, and community networks play a role in your problem issues.  I also use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Experiential, Developmental Psychology, and Emotionally-Focused Therapy in my work. Additionally, I have speciality training in Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA,) where I help bring about positive changes for people who are on the autism spectrum and I work with their families to help them develop behavioral strategies and ways to connect.  I am licensed as a Marriage and Family Therapist Associate in the state of Washington and I currently work at Meridian Counseling Services located in Kent, WA.
