Aleitha Ward, BFA (Art), MPS, RSW, is a Registered Social Worker with the Alberta College
of Social Workers and a Professional Member of the Canadian Art Therapy Association. She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Art) with Great Distinction from the University of Lethbridge  and a Master of Psychotherapy and Spirituality (Art Therapy Specialization) from St. Stephens College.
Aleitha is trained in Trauma-Informed Art Therapy, advanced levels of EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization
and Reprocessing), and Gottman Couples Therapy (Level 1). Aleitha has extensive training in loss, grief and bereavement issues.
Aleitha completed several courses of the Alberta Arbitration and Mediation
Society’s Conflict Resolution Program, as well as CISD, CISM, and Board
Development.Aleitha is a co-creator of The Medicine Tree Healing Arts Centre (2004), an alternative health care facility where she is in private practice. Her preference for art as therapy empowers her counselling
practice with creativity, discovery, and the enhancement of resilience. She
believes that creativity is an inherent quality of the human condition and that
expression is essential to personal growth and healing. Aleitha uses a person-centered
approach to therapy and integrates multi-modal expressive arts, narrative, cognitive
behavioural, solution-focused, sensorimotor, and systems concepts and strategies. Aleitha works with adult and adolescent individuals as well as couples and groups.Aleitha has worked in the human service field for over 35 years.
She is experienced in the areas of communication, conflict resolution, crisis
intervention, sexual violence, domestic violence, bereavement, loss and grief,
suicide, depression, anxiety, stress, resiliency, trauma and vicarious trauma,
self-esteem and personal growth. Aleitha also has experience working with community
development, interagency groups, conference and workshop coordination, volunteer
management, and Board membership. She is an art therapist, counsellor, and educator. Aleitha is an artist and potter and has taught pottery classes at
Lethbridge Community College. She is a wife and business partner
with her husband in construction and safety services. She is the mother of 3 adult sons and grandmother of 4. She enjoys travel, reading, and the company of friends. Aleitha can be reached at her private
