“Yes, I am imperfect and vulnerable and sometimes afraid, but that doesn’t
change the truth that I am also brave and worthy of love and belonging.”
Brené Brown, Author, The Gifts of Imperfection.

My goal as a therapist is to create a relationship with my clients based on mutual honesty and respect, while also bearing the compassion and sensitivity that are fundamental to healing. I will strive to ensure you feel supported and heard, help you learn new coping skills, and begin letting go of behaviors that aren’t serving you in a positive fashion.

I have a passion working with young adults and parents. Teens see me as a confidante and mentor not as an authoritative adult. I still speak 18-year-old fluently, living with two teens in my household. I’ve spent the last 20 years working with adolescents and creating a safe space where they can contemplate their thoughts, feelings and actions out loud, with no judgement or being told what to do. I support and help them in their efforts to change and grow towards their strengths and dreams. I also bring a unique background with over 15 years of professional experience counselling adolescents in various settings including young adults at the high-school and university levels.

As a Cognitive Behavioural Therapist, CBT focuses on the way people think ("cognitive") and act ("behavioural"). The concept behind CBT is that our thoughts about a situation affect how we feel (emotionally and physically) and how we behave in that situation. I treat a wide variety of issues, including anxiety, depression and mood disorders, relationship difficulties, adjustment problems and life transitions, stress management, family conflict, and communication difficulties. I am well versed in several counseling techniques including Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and Transdiagnostic Behaviour Therapy (TBT). I am a graduate student at McMaster University in the Cognitive Behavioural Sciences Program.

I am very passionate about improving the lives of others within my own community, where I have worked and volunteered with women’s shelters, teen parents, abused children, suicide prevention and families in crisis for the past 20 years. I take great pride in calling myself a clinical counselor and wholeheartedly love the work I do. Whatever is holding you back, now is the time to move beyond that limitation. You have the power to change your life, you just need to know how.

Education:
I have completed my honours undergraduate degree in psychology from the University of Western Ontario and am currently in the Masters in Counselling, Cognitive Behavioral Sciences Program at McMaster University, with an anticipated graduation of August 2018.
