Are you experiencing overwhelming emotions, uncomfortable physical symptoms or life feels like it is "too much"?
Perhaps your behaviour has recently changed and you are finding it hard to make a decision, focus on work or concentrate on conversations.
Are you finding it difficult to connect and maintain your relationships and feel disconnected from your friends and family?
Most adults develop strong coping skills, but certain adverse life events (can be trauma) that have happened in your past, can sometimes be too much to process. Eventually, we all have the potential to develop a wide range of troubling and confusing symptoms.
As a Certified Practitioner of Somatic Experiencing®, I support you in listening to and understanding your body’s voice. Together, we will find your way to connect to your body’s inner wisdom and release the trapped survival energy so you can….
Better connect to your loved ones.
Let go of your physical pain.
Feel grounded, safe and joyful.
As a paramedic, I learned that to maintain my mental health, I needed support. Support, because I realized that I could not make the changes that had to happen, on my own. I had to find the ‘right fit’. This experience offered me a perspective that I had not considered before, those of us that struggle, are in pain or experience uncomfortable and disorienting physical or psychological symptoms, may not know where to look. It can take time to find the right ‘fit’.
When you find the right “fit” – it all comes together.
As someone who has witnessed many things, lived in many places and has changed careers a few times, I know I am in the right place and being a therapist is the ‘right fit’ for me. I imagine I know what you are going through, the details of the story will be very different. You are a different person, but I can imagine your experience right now, I have been there.
Sometimes it feels like there are parts of ourselves that are ‘missing’.
My philosophy is that I am a companion on your journey, I will offer different choices, I will support your process and most of all I will not tell you how to feel or think. As a Somatic Experiencing® Practitioner (SEP) I understand the connection of the mind, body and spirit (however you see that) and I will work with you to renegotiate and reintroduce you to all of who you are. We start slow and build up your confidence with choices, knowledge and integrating supportive practices in your life. We will think ‘out of the box’ and find a way forward and to feel whole, well and healthy that works for you.
You are the expert of your life, let me help you discover how your past experiences affect you today.
I am a certified Somatic Experiencing® Practitioner (a body-oriented approach for healing trauma) more information and be found here or here. Our beginning steps will likely include mindful and compassionate practices, as well as cognitive and narrative (talk) therapies. We go at your pace, in your own time. I invite you to reach out to me if you have any questions about therapy.
My clients describe me as empathetic, caring and supportive. That they can say things that they never through they would be able to, ever. Additionally, they can realize things about themselves, lives and experiences, in ways they had not thought possible.
Curiosity and Creativity
Curiosity and creativity have helped me learn that there are many ways to achieve an outcome or goal. Exploring the world with photography, art, nature and travel has opened to my mind to other perspectives. For my wellbeing, I integrate many creative outlets as part of my self-nurturing practice. As for nature, I especially love owls.
I graduated from Yorkville University in 2016 with a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology and am a professional member of the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association and a Registered Psychotherapist with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario. Since 2001 I have volunteered with the Durham Region Critical Incident Stress Team. First, as a first responder peer support member and now as a mental health professional supporting my team members to support first responders. You can find out more about the team here.
