With more than thirty years of experience as a social worker, counsellor, and therapist developing my skills, I have worked in a number of settings assisting people with emotional, behavioural and relationship problems.

I received my formal training as a therapist while completing a Master of Social Work degree at Wilfrid Laurier University. I had previously earned an undergraduate degree in psychology from the University of New Brunswick, and a Bachelor of Social Work degree from Dalhousie University. I am registered with the New Brunswick Association of Social Workers, and governed by the association's guidelines for professional practice and ethical conduct.

My practice has been further shaped by additional training in therapeutic methods such as Narrative Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Reality Therapy, Play Therapy, as well as on specific issues such as depression, sexual abuse, suicide prevention,

I practice within what is called the Narrative perspective. As a narrative therapist, it is important to me respond respectfully to the perspective, values and strengths of my clients, so that we can work together to find ways of resolving difficulties. It is my goal that my clients develop skills they are comfortable with using in ways that will help them make the changes they seek in their lives.

One important tool to this end is the written report, usually in the form of the letter, that I write to those who attend each session. My clients have often told me they find receiving such a letter a helpful way of remembering and making use of what was discussed during sessions. In addition to ensuring that what I have a correct and appropriate understanding of what my clients have told me, it also allows clients to make sure that I am responding appropriately to their concerns, ensuring that we build and effective therapeutic alliance. These letters may be shared or kept private, kept as a personal record, or destroyed, as my clients see fit. Without a client's expressed permission, reports are not shared with any third party.
