Anita has worked as a therapist for over 15 years and opened her private practice "Counselling Works Professional Counselling Services" in the fall of 1999. She received her M.A. in Counselling Psychology from Simon Fraser University in 1995 and has been registered with the B.C. Association of Clinical Counsellors since 2000. Anita is also registered with the B.C. Victim Assistance Program, enabling victims of crime to receive therapy, free of charge.
Anita is skilled at working with individuals, couples and families, who present with a variety of struggles and issues. She has extensive experience working with couples, either those couples experiencing conflict and relationship abuse or those couples wanting to enrich their relationship and create a loving environment for their families. Her work with individual men and women revolves around helping them to move towards well-being and balance - emotionally, spiritually and psychologically and to help them acknowledge and celebrate their strengths. To help her clients create meaningful change, Anita employs a variety of techniques, strategies and approaches from family systems, feminist, cognitivie-behavioural and solution focused theories. Anita says, "It is a real honour to share in my client's lives, both in the good times and in the not-so-good times, and to help them uncover and reconnect to their loving and wise selves."
Anita is an empathetic listener who believes that her clients possess the inner strength and wisdom necessary to feel empowered and to accomplish their life goals. She unconditionally accepts her clients, and believes that a genuine connection between counsellor and client gives clients the courage and gentle push to rise above their life challenges.
Anita has been married for 31 years and has three adult children. Besides enjoying gardening and hiking, she is also now falling in love again - with her new grandson. Becoming a grandparent is the next joyful chapter of her life!
