I offer counselling support at 2 locations (Play Therapy and Counselling Services) in Norwich and in Woodstock!
As a Registered Psychotherapist, I specializes in working with children, teens and families. Whether someone is looking for support or healing with: trauma, mental health illness, grief, building connections with loved ones, or more; my goal is to help people arrive at a sense of inner peace and self-acceptance. I offer a space that is judgement free, supported by compassion that will help clients find their own peace, discover their strengths and develop and incorporate strategies into their daily lives.
Ensuring my approach is catered to meet individual interests, I engage easily with children, teens and adults and use an eclectic approach that could incorporate: Solution Focused Brief Therapy, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Sandtray, Art, Narrative, Guided Imagery, Emotionally Focused/ Humanistic Approach, Puppetry, and of course Client Centred/ Non Directive Therapy.
For the last 20 years, I have supported and empowered children, adolescents and their families who have been faced with various challenges. My experience pans across the lifespan from facilitating play therapy with children as young as 4 years old to offering individual counselling to men and women who have experienced family violence.
I have completed my Masters of Spiritual Care and Psychotherapy with Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo. I have my Bachelor of Arts, a diploma in Early Childhood Education and a post diploma in Resource Teacher. I am registered with the College of Registered Psychotherapist of Ontario and am a member of the Canadian Association for Child and Play Therapy.
Children and Play Therapy
Concerned about your child or teen? Play Therapy is an evidenced based method that works with those that have: witness parental conflict - experienced abuse - are adopted/ in foster care - dealing with loss - been hospitalized - witnessed domestic violence- difficulty making friends - bullied/ bully others - present with delays in their social, emotional.
I have found that “PLAY” is extremely powerful in facilitating with the individual the opportunity to grow and learn about themselves and the world around them. Play is, “a natural language and context for children and adolescents to explore and express their worlds. In treatment this is a valuable venue for the child to gain understanding and mastery over the complex inner experiences that they are unable to vocalize.”
