Until June 2020, Anne-Drea worked with Horizon Health, [New Brunswick's government health program], as Clinical Coordinator, for various programs across the years. Prior to that, she spent many years working within correctional services and public safety, coordinating various offender rehabilitation programs.  In 2016, Anne-Drea completed the MSW at Dalhousie University, with emphasis on Anti-Oppressive Practice, appropriately suited for her work with marginalized individuals. That same year, she began teaching at St. Thomas University, and continues teaching there today.

By June 2020, the COVID pandemic had significantly increased the strain on public and private mental health services. The increase was partially due to the limitations placed on "gathering in public places," such as wait rooms (in all service industries), and partly due to the overwhelming effects that 'living in a pandemic state' can place on anyone, which increased the need for greater access to mental health services.

TO HELP REDUCE MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES WAIT LISTS:

  • Expanded office hours
  • Writing a monthly published article in the "Freddy Plus," online/print publication to help educate readers about mental illness and related issues, and to provide helpful resources for readers who may be wait-listed for service.
  • Accepting a limited number of pro-bono clients

WHO IS A COMMON CLIENT?

A common client is often emotionally disturbed over a daily life event, or a series of events. Events might be recent, or from the distant past. Sometimes, clients are clear about the reasons for their distress, as they search for answers and support, to cope with anxiety, depression, or sleep disturbances.  Sometimes, client's are confused; the reasons may not be so obvious. In these cases, clients typically seek counselling to help sort out their complex and unique situation.

WHAT DO CLIENT'S RECEIVE?

Regardless of client's counselling reasons, most clients receive guidance or "tools" toward changing their perspective, or their situation. In addition to the common client, some clients experience major mental illness, such as post traumatic stress disorder, major depressive disorder, or generalized anxiety disorder, and they often seek therapeutic treatment. We can discuss the difference.

Your life and your situation are both special and unique. I have spent the past few decades of life, career and educational experience preparing myself to work alongside clients, as they navigate life's ups and downs. It is an honour to hear your story, and to support your well being along the way.
