Oftentimes my clients already have the solutions to their problems but feel powerless to move forward due to overwhelming anxiety or depression. The natural stress that we feel as a result of just living our lives can become amplified to the point where it interferes with our daily functioning and enjoyment of life. In treatment we will use a combination of traditional talk therapy, psychological education, and technique implementation to cope with stress in healthy ways and lower your anxiety and depression so that you can move out of survival mode and into thriving mode.
Growing up as a ballerina I was exposed to the world of eating disorders and body image issues. I saw the damaging effect that they could have on my follow dancers and their family. I also saw how protective factors, like having a family that fostered an atmosphere of acceptance at home, kept me from experiencing the distress that I witnessed my friends struggling with. As I pursued my undergraduate degree at Brigham Young University I knew that I wanted to further study how improving family systems and interpersonal relationships could enhance the personal well being of individuals dealing with psychological disorders. I graduated with my Bachelors of Science in Psychology. Afterwards, I attended Pepperdine University where I received my Masters of Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy and years of graduate experience administering therapy.
So far my clinical experience has allowed me to see an assortment of mental health issues; however, I specialize in treating eating disorders, relationship issues, depression, and anxiety. I have worked with individuals, couples, families, and groups of all ages and distress levels on these psychological issues.
In session I like to create an atmosphere of acceptance, safety, and sharing. I use a humanistic and solution-focused approach, which means that we will look at what you are already doing well and incorporate those strengths into your treatment to overcome your distress.
Since the client is the expert in his or her own experience, I collaborate with each person to create an individualized treatment plan. I draw heavily from evidence-based interventions and treatments in an effort to find what will work best for each individual in therapy. I look forward to getting to know you, to developing a therapeutic relationship and using our time together in session to discover how to best assist you in moving towards the person you want to become.
