My approach as a counselor is to provide supportive therapy matching my interventions to your needs to help you rediscover strengths, examine challenges, and explore relationships. I create a safe space and collaborative partnership with you and your family. While you bring your wisdom of your life experiences, struggles, and patterns, I bring my therapy expertise and knowledge of the change process. Through our trusting relationship, we can explore the problems you are facing with spirit of gentle curiosity to determine what psychological explanations “fit” your situation and work together to build on your unique strengths, alleviate your symptoms, and improve your relationships.
My specialty is working with children, adolescents, and young adults (Toddlers to Twenty-Somethings) to manage the changes in their lives that affect their connection to others. I enjoy working with challenges around inattention, hyperactivity, impulsivity, defiance, mood swings, depression, anxiety, anger, grief, self-harm, identity development, and relationships. I use play therapy coupled with parental support interventions to help you address behavior challenges at home and school for your preschooler or child. For tweens and teens, I use a blended approach (play & talk) to assist with identity development and learning to cope with the turbulent emotions of adolescence. I use primarily talk-based interventions with older adolescents, young adults, and couples to help you with launching, adulting, and partnering.
Counseling is an intentional, guided process through which we uncover your thoughts, feelings, actions, underlying meanings, and cycles to help you get “unstuck”. Whether you feel overwhelmed with daily life, angry with your partner, worried about your adolescent, or frustrated with your child, I provide compassion and clinical expertise so you won’t be lost and alone to figure out life’s challenges. Throughout the therapy process, I balance the belief that you are doing the very best you can with what you know right now and you need make the changes you desire. As I support your desire for change while accepting you for who you are right now, our trusting relationship allows us to move into deeper therapeutic work to address and alleviate your struggles.
