"Empathy is a special way of coming to know another and ourself, a kind of attuning and understanding. When empathy is extended, it satisfies our needs and wish for intimacy, it rescues us from our feelings of aloneness."
Relationships have always fascinated me. From both ends of the spectrum: the unparalleled joy of falling in love, having a partner to share life ’s joys and sorrows; and the difficulties couples encounter, which can make or break the relationship.
While there are people who are fortunate to have found their soulmates, many are struggling to have a deep connection with a partner, or running into the same patterns in relationship after relationship. Others are with their ideal partner, yet have become clouded by life ’s stressors and given up on trying to make things work. Sometimes one partner is invested in working on the challenges, while the other is not, creating a stalemate.
I do couples counselling from an emotionally focused perspective. EFT has been found to be the most effective approach for couples counselling and is used world- wide.
In our work together, I meet with both partners for the first session, followed by an individual session with each partner, before coming back together. Please be advised that in my work with couples, I have a no secrets policy, which means that information that is disclosed to me by one partner and is unknown to the other (such as an affair, problematic drug or alcohol use, financial debts, etc.) will need to be shared in the couples' sessions.
"One of the most common misconceptions in life is that what we did yesterday has to somehow dictate what we can do or be today. It doesn ’t. We never have to be limited by who we ’ve been. At any time, we can decide to be or do something different and totally redirect the trajectory of our lives." -Lori Deschenne
Working with individuals in various stages of life, I see a range of age groups, from adolescents through seniors.
By identifying goals and understanding emotions, we work together to improve life skills and create better coping mechanisms, in order to enhance one's quality of life.
Some of the issues that clients explore in therapy with me (in no particular order) include:
- Eating disorders
- Problematic substance use

Online counselling has been proven to be as effective as face-to-face counselling, and offers the convenience of being in one's own space and saves time and cost of travel expenses. For online counselling sessions, I use a secure, encrypted videoconferencing program called thera-LINK, which was designed specifically for online counselling. Prior to our first session you will receive an email from thera-LINK to register. For online sessions, please ensure that you have a good internet connection and that you have adequate privacy. In the case of technical difficulties, the phone can be used as a back-up method for a session.
FEES (Taxes included):
Individual Counselling: $130 for a 60-minute session.
Couples Counselling: $150 for a 60-minute session; $175 for a 75-minute session; $200 for a 90-minute session
As a Registered Social Worker, counselling with me is covered by most extended insurance plans in Ontario. Please check with your health insurance provider for confirmation and details of coverage.
