I qualified as a social worker in 2008 and have worked in Canada, England, Nepal and Thailand. My experiences abroad pushed me out of my comfort zone, allowed me to challenge myself to learn skills, embrace new cultures and  truly understand how to work from an anti-oppressive lens. I have spent most of my career working in children and youth's mental health agencies as well as developmental services. My experience at these different agencies has enabled me to work with individuals of all ages and gain a thorough understanding of how mental health challenges can be processed differently depending on your developmental stage. My ability to change my approach depending on if I am working with an adult or child has allowed me to be successful in providing family therapy.
My genuine nature, strong engagement skills and non-judgmental approach allows me to easily build rapport and help you feel at ease in session. When working with youth my sense of humor enables me to connect with even the most resistant teen. Counselling can be difficult and my role is to ensure you feel valued and heard within our sessions.  I am passionate about supporting families in creating positive memories and building attachment between family members.  I have supported many with people struggling with: mental health diagnoses, self-esteem, relationship issues, family conflict, school refusal, autism, dual-diagnoses, anger management, attachment, adoption, divorce and trauma.

As a clinician I am experienced working with children as young as two. My work with children and youth will often include therapeutic games, workbooks, activities, art, writing contracts together and using mindfulness to help children learn how to regulate their emotions. Through our sessions parents will also be included so they can learn the skills and apply them at home. Our sessions may include talking, role-playing, using games and practicing strategies.  As a parent you know your child best and therefore your input is invaluable. I have also been successful in helping parents prepare for the adoption of a child and improving their attachment to their child.

My strengths based/trauma informed approach enables me to support clients to overcome obstacles, learn new coping skills, create healthier communication patterns and move you towards your preferred identity. To make counselling easier for you I am able to offer counselling in your home or community.

For families that are separating or are engaged in divorce proceedings I am skilled at helping children settle into a new routine, helping parents learn how to co-parent from different households and supporting children to navigate the loyalty bind they be feeling. For cases where there is high conflict I am able to support parents to work on assertive communication, managing their own emotions in front of their child and am familiar in working alongside parenting coordinators and mediators.

Certificate in: Trauma Counselling for Front-Line Workers, Narrative Therapy, Applied Suicide Intervention Skills
I am trained in: Trauma Informed Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Solution-Focused Therapy, Mindfulness, Collaborative Problem-Solving, Systems Theory and supporting families through High Conflict Divorces.
