Deana has been providing support to teens, young adults and adults with a variety of concerns for a number of years. She practices from a compassionate approach.  Her goal in her work with clients is to tailor the therapy to best meet the specific needs and goals that clients bring to sessions. She is committed to working collaboratively with clients to provide relief from the distress, strong emotions and upsetting situation that they are experiencing.
 
Some of these issues include, but are not limited to: 
 - diagnosis of a serious illness,
 - symptoms of depression and anxiety,
 - school/work related stress,
 - assertiveness and boundaries in relationships and
 - self-esteem

Over the past few years, Deana discovered her profound interest in supporting individuals who have experienced a form of loss. She pursued specialized training to be able to best help people experiencing:
 - loss
 - grief
 - bereavement 
 - trauma
 
She supports those who have experienced:
 - death of a loved one
 - loss of health (eg. cancer diagnosis, loss of mobility)
 - loss of relationships (eg. divorce, separation)
 - loss of culture or identity
 - loss of a pet
 - job loss

Deana is a registered Social Worker in good standings with the Ontario College of Social Workers. She has her Bachelors of Social Work from Ryerson University and a Master of Education in Counselling Psychology from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (affiliated with the University of Toronto). She has training and certificates in bereavement, grief, trauma and in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). She draws upon techniques from trauma-informed therapy, CBT, Motivational Interviewing and Interpersonal therapy. 
 
Deana sees her clients privately at the Equinox Centre for Grief and Trauma Counselling. She currently has a role at Sunnybrook in the Odette Cancer Centre supporting cancer patients and their families, providing guidance and assistance in accessing cancer medications for treatment. In this role she primarily works with patients diagnosed with breast cancer. Deana also volunteers on the professional advisory committee with Bereaved Families of Ontario - Halton/Peel location. In the past, Deana has done some animal facilitated therapy with individuals struggling with bullying, identity issues and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
 
Deana is also a member with the following organizations:
 - The Ontario Association of Social Workers  - The Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association
 - The Association for Death Education and Counseling
