You are the expert on you.
I can't tell you what's right or wrong. I'm not good at predicting the future. I'll help you clarify your preferences, your values, your magic wishes, and things you would prefer would just go away. I'm following your lead in this stage.
We'll brainstorm together.
After we get an outline of what you're considering we can start banging ideas around related to heading towards your Better. Let's start with the easiest and move through your check list. I'm going to ask a lot of questions. You should ask a lot of questions. We'll both learn some things.
Better is a direction- Not a finish line.
This is one of those things where direction is more important than speed. Of course you'll want to feel benefits ASAP but let's also set things up for long-term gains.
Your goals. My skills. No judgment.
I'll help you rig your life in your favor. Lean on your strengths. Be OK with you without apology or thinking someone needs sign off on your feelings or preferences for them to be valid.
My views.
My life has not been a straight line so I'm well aware its possible to look up and wonder, "How did I get here?
I work with clients across the life span, from age 3 and up. I work with sinners, saints, and the undeclared.
I look at each person's stage in life. I consider the transitions that are occurring. I ask about each person in terms of past experiences, current wishes, and capacity to redefine their lives. I assume every chosen behavior has some benefit in some way and to some degree. Often we can keep our goals but go about them in a different way.
I don't look at unwanted or unflattering behaviors as defiant, anti-social, or oppositional. Those are labels we can't do anything with. Let's consider them as symptoms of a hidden issue and look for that. No one needs one more artificial label to feel bad about.
The foundation of my work is built on the belief that feeling accepted and valued as-is is a real big deal. We are social animals. When we root out all the garbage that causes us to question ourselves we are left feeling competent and the living is easy. I do my part by modeling acceptance. I point out faulty language and beliefs that that aren't doing any one any favors and suggest more accurate descriptions.
Let me know if I can help you make sense of how to get where you'd rather be.
