Meet Doreen Maxwell, MFT
Psychotherapy is one of the best investments you can make in yourself. I love this work, as I love witnessing the changes clients are able to make. I have tremendous respect for this process of diving in and paying attention to one's inner world. There are enormous advantages to this attention and learning for your life, your relationships, your work.
I use the principles and methods of Hakomi Body-Centered Psychotherapy, * Somatic Practice, Transpersonal Hypnotherapy, Internal Family Systems, and/or Sandtray. Above all, I believe in your inner knowing, your impulses toward healthy growth. All methods are simply used to facilitate the self study needed to free up these capacities.
* "Hakomi presents some astounding methods for getting to core material. It is well grounded in theory and revolutionary in its results." — Association of Humanistic Psychology Newsletter
I most often work with people suffering from dysfunctional relationships, depression, anxiety, attachment wounds, and chronic or acute trauma. Patterns and habits which were once adaptive coping methods may not serve you or your relationships anymore. Together we can access these unconscious beliefs that hold you back and so create new possibilities in feeling, thinking, and relating. Trauma is held in the body, and can be moved along with somatic methods. Hakomi Experiential Therapy and also Somatic Practice as taught by Kathy Kain, are most helpful.
Relationship Counseling with Doreen
In couples work, I often teach Non-violent Communication skills; a precise and compassionate method to facilitate understanding, empathy, and getting one's needs met. I also facilitate your study of the dynamics and attachment issues through Hakomi methods: utilizing mindfulness and experiential exercises.
I believe that your love relationship often has a hidden purpose- the healing of childhood wounds. Instead of focusing entirely on surface needs and desires, you can learn to recognize the unresolved childhood issues that underlie them and practice new ways of communicating and caring. It is human nature to want to coerce the other to change. However, if you each come in with the attitude of: "I want to work on how I respond to and communicate with my partner," we'll have a good chance of working toward a happier relationship.

Are you ready to reclaim your life?
We all experience life stressors that can make us feel overwhelmed, unhappy, or stuck. If you find yourself in a such situation, hope and help are at your fingertips. Therapy can assist you in overcoming your difficulties by working to identify and change the thought, feeling and behavior patterns that keep you from feeling your best. Going to therapy is a courageous act that requires the ability to acknowledge we need extra help.
To support your needs, I provide a warm, compassionate, and non-judgmental environment that will help you deal with your personal challenges, concerns, and worries. Feeling heard, understood, and accepted are the first steps that will lead you to a better place. In a collaborative approach based mainly on talk treatment, feedback, reflective listening, and psycho-education will be provided to you.
Over time, you will be able to understand yourself better and develop more satisfying relationships with others. Other benefits may include how to make thoughtful decisions, develop coping skills, and learn how to empower yourself.
While working with clients, I take into consideration early life experiences, age and life transitions, impacts of the environment and family unit, and client’s resources.
I look forward to working with you and being part of your journey.

Meet Janelle Klass, MFTI #90012 ~ Supervised by Doreen Maxwell, LMFT #41105
Hello! I am a pre-licensed marriage and family therapy intern, IMF #90012 working under the supervision of Doreen Maxwell, LMFT #41105. I earned my masters degree in Counseling Psychology in 2015 from Santa Clara University and have over four years of experience in the field of psychology and mental health. My approach is tailored to fit the needs of each individual I see. For some people, getting equipped with concrete skills and strategies is the most important thing. For others, it's feeling heard and understood, or feeling safe enough to explore or divulge extremely difficult or personal information. Many individuals find deep satisfaction in getting in touch with their inner hearts and spirits with the assistance of a guide. My goal is to meet each client where they are and collaborate to develop a course of treatment in line with his or her needs, goals, and priorities.
Oftentimes, relationships turn out to be the most fraught areas of our lives. As social beings, our most intimate relationships are critically important, and they can be powerful influencers on the rest of our lives. When they are going well, the world is our oyster. But when they go off track it can seem impossible to manage even the minor stressors of everyday life. Relationships offer us the highest of highs and the most stressful of lows, often seemingly without much regard for our intentions or efforts. Whether relationships are in need of a tune-up or on the brink of collapse, as a couples counselor I offer an array of powerful interventions aimed at restoring their strength, vitality, and resilience.
As a Santa Clara native, I have experienced the great shifts that have occurred in Silicon Valley in recent decades, especially the huge growth of the tech industry and changes in lifestyle and demographics that came with it. It is not uncommon to experience some degree of culture shock when things change so dramatically, especially for those just arriving. For all of us, maintaining work-life balance is an incredibly important and sometimes impossible-seeming task in this valley. On the life side of my equation, I enjoy gardening, swimming, and visiting with friends.

Meet Debra Pace, MFTI ~ Supervised by Doreen Maxwell, LMFT #41105
Continuous growth is always desired but remember that those peaks and valleys are all part of this wonderful thing we call life.
Congratulations on taking the first step to living a more balanced life! Looking for help, both within and outside of ourselves, can be one of the biggest challenges we face on a regular basis. It takes courage to begin the journey towards enrichment and you are on your way!
I believe the best gift we can give ourselves is compassion. Sadly, we often struggle to find compassion in ourselves and from others. My aim as a therapist is to be a compassionate listener while helping you work through barriers and difficult transitions as you search to reignite your own self-compassion in all you do.
My most effective tools in this process are empathic listening and unconditional positive regard. Together we will build a healing relationship that allows us to work together to identify and tackle your goals. Our relationship will serve as a model to practice healthy communication skills and enhance your self-appreciation as you work through transitions in your life.
My varied experiences throughout life give me the unique ability to connect with individuals of all ages and backgrounds. I have learned that while I embrace the opportunity to work with all individuals, my true passion lies in working with:
· athletes of all levels
· older adults and their caregivers
I look forward to collaborating with you as we explore and fulfill your personal goals.
