Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) is one of the most thoroughly researched, clearly delineated, and empirically validated approaches in the field of couples therapy.
EFT uses Attachment Theory as its framework and it tells us that we have a wired-in need for emotional contact and responsiveness from significant others. It is a survival need, especially in moments of distress when we need reassurance that we are OK and we can rely and depend on our loved ones for safety and security in the relationship.
