Details about my specialties:  
I specialize in helping teens and adults who suffer from anxiety disorders. Did you know that anxiety disorders are one of the most common mental health disorders in the United States? While this is true, most people never seek help or treatment for the symptoms. Fear and anxiety are necessary emotions, especially in situations that are potentially dangerous, they serve to warn us and help us pay attention, isolate options and make decisions so we’re not hurt. It is when these emotions take over and become generalized that dysfunction arises. When we are saturated in stress hormones (hormones that are released when we’re anxious or stressed) it can cause a lot of different physical health issues; stomach problems, fatigue, muscle tension, headaches, decreased immune system – our mental health greatly impacts how we physically feel.

What you can expect upon me receiving your request for session: 
  • I will email, text or call to setup sometime to speak on the phone briefly to connect and ask a few questions
  • Together, we'll schedule some time to meet in my office, or via phone or video for your first session with me or one of my other counselors
  • Your first scheduled appointment will be 90 minutes to allow for you to learn more about my style of counseling and for me to learn more about your desires for counseling 
  • I will conclude the session by asking if you think I am the right fit to help? If so, we'll make a plan together to move you forward! 

About Elizabeth Carr, LPC, NCC: 
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor that has been practicing in both Texas and Michigan for over 5 years. I work in private practice, school and community mental health based environments, with individuals and families. I earned a Masters degree in Community Counseling from Argosy University in 2012 began my counseling work partnering with parents of children diagnosed with ADHD, anxiety and high functioning Autism. Through this work, that was initially focused on their child, many of my clients also found a safe space to focus on improving their own mental health. Together we worked through through topics like worries/anxiety, high stress, low job satisfaction, trouble sleeping, relationship stressors and family conflicts. Reaching out to a counselor for help is a huge and difficult step in the process of healing. My goal is to work with my clients to find solutions to their feelings of discomfort and support them in finding personal success.

My approach to counseling is a combination of Solution Focused and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I also integrate several techniques from Dialectal Behavioral Therapy.
