During my early adolescent years, I experienced a tragic loss that forever changed me. For years I had questions and tried to determine the meaning of the tragedy. Why did that happen? How would I and others survive?  These questions led me on a quest to understand myself, my identity, my purpose and my value in a very deep way. And looking back, there is no question that the journey that began in my early teens would eventually lead me into the field of counseling. I knew early on I wanted to help others understand this kind of loss. To help them find meaning and healing in the midst of tragedy, in the midst of trials.

I believe the most effective counseling experience is a cooperative process between a client and therapist in which past and present wounds, patterns and relationships are explored.  It is one that sometimes involves pain, comfort, compassion, time and healing. It is a unique relationship that requires mutual trust, honest disclosure and commitment to the goal.
* Of particular interest to me are women's issues, such as life-balance and infertility, building healthy relationships, and teen girls' identity issues.
Finding and maintaining balance in life is a key to my happiness and peace.  I believe it is one of the most challenging things working women face in this generation.  With the pulls and pressures from children, spouses, employers, schools, maintaining a home and all that these things involve, finding time for ourselves is very difficult, and at times, feels impossible and selfish.  But in my experience, juggling a career, a husband, children, family relationships, friendships and individual growth can be over-whelming.  I believe having a balanced life helps restore our relationships, our peace and our hope.
