My approach is based in mindfulness and body-awareness and focuses on shining a light on hidden beliefs and habituated patterns so you can have access to greater freedom and choice in your life.  I will help you develop greater self-awareness, self-compassion, coping skills, and ultimately, greater access to feelings of aliveness, energy, and love.

I work with wide variety of issues, including:
  • anxiety and stress
  • depression
  • disordered eating, body image issues
  • negative self-talk, low self-esteem
  • substance abuse, addictive behaviors
  • navigating intense emotions
  • grief and loss
  • unresolved trauma
  • challenging family relationships
  • challenging partnerships
  • parenting issues
  • spiritual growth
  • performance related issues, especially in the outdoor adventure sphere
  • leadership roles, growth and issues

I have sixteen years of experience doing this work, and am a licensed professional counselor in the state of Colorado.  My education includes a Masters degree from Naropa University in Transpersonal Psychology, an approach that honors the importance of body / mind / heart / and spirit in the therapeutic process, as well as a Masters in Education from the University of California at Santa Cruz.

I have extensive training in:
  • Mindfulness and Meditation
  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
  • Psychobiological Approach to Couples Therapy (PACT)
  • Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)
  • Gestalt Therapy
  • Motivational Interviewing
  • Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
  • Non-Violent Communication

I use PACT (Psycho-biological Approach to Couples Therapy) in my work with couples.  PACT uses neurobiology, attachment theory, and the nervous system to understand and work with couples in an effective and powerful way.
Working with me as a couple, both members of the couple will:
  • Gain a deeper understanding their relationship "style," and how they developed this style
  • Gain a deeper understanding of their partner and how they operate in the world
  • Address ways they injure the trust and safety in the relationship
  • Learn practical and effective ways to rebuild trust and safety
  • Learn how to thrive as a couple, through a shared vision of commitment and trust.

PACT is an excellent fit for working with:
  • Couples exploring entering into a deeper commitment: moving in together, having children, marriage
  • Pre-marital counseling
  • Major betrayals, infidelity
  • Struggles around sex and intimacy
  • Struggles with commitment
  • Partners with children looking to re-establish their partnership as a priority
  • Couples seeking a "tune-up" in order to forge greater connection and intimacy
  • Any couple looking to shift entrenched patterns in their relationship, with the goal of greater relationship satisfaction

Credentials and training are important, but ultimately therapy is about relationship and who we are together as people.  These are three defining pieces of my work with individuals and couples:

1. I love the earth and draw from this love in my work as a therapist.  I am not exaggerating to say I have literally slept on the ground outdoors for thousands of nights.  I lived, worked, and taught in the deserts and mountains of Utah, Wyoming, Oregon and California year-round for ten years.

2. I’m a mom.  I have two young daughters and this has positively and profoundly impacted who I am as a therapist.  Among other things, it has completely shifted my appreciation and understanding of clients who are parents.  Being a mom has also brought me greater understanding of how events in our childhood impact and affect us as adults.  Attachment work is not a theoretical idea for me, it is a deep, felt knowing.

3. I believe in this work wholeheartedly, and I embrace the work in my own life.  I don't put on a therapist mask and come to work.  I show up as myself, a person who works with mindfulness, embodiment, and the principles behind PACT couples counseling every day in my own life and committed partnership.  I am dedicated to helping clients become curious about their own internal experiences and inner make-up.  I tend towards more complexity, nuance, connection, and depth, rather than providing advice or answers.

I value myself as a therapist who is down-to-earth, smart, loving, bold, and honest.
I charge $130 an hour and occasionally have sliding scale spots available. Depending on your health insurance benefits, our work together may be reimbursable and I am happy to provide you with an invoice to submit with your claim.
