I became a counsellor because I wanted to give people the opportunity to feel like they matter, and to offer a safe space for people to feel comfortable to be themselves. There was a time in my life that I felt trapped in myself, struggling with parts of my story and desperately needing a place to feel safe, to have an ally to help pull me out of myself, to encourage and empower me to grow into my potential, and to learn how to just be okay with all of my experiences in life. These desires that I experienced in my life are what motivate me in providing these needs for my clients. I am human too, we all go through struggles, and I want my clients to be aware that they are not alone; I understand just how difficult life can be. My mission is to give my clients a voice to share their truth and to help end stigma that it really is okay to not be okay at times in our lives. We are not “broken” or have something “wrong” with us if things are not okay. Things are not okay sometimes because we are human beings who experience living. I want to help my clients re-create their stories, and grow into the person they want to be.
I am straight forward with my clients, compassionate, dedicated, trustworthy, and caring. I see my clients as unique individuals, not putting them into the same boxes. I believe that the past shapes each and every one of us, but that past does not have to dictate how we live our life, nor does it have to hold us prisoner. Clients have said they experience warmth in our relationship, they feel understood, safe, and free to remove their masks. I like to push my clients at just the right amount to help them achieve their goals. Sometimes they are given work in between sessions that help them grow. I’m also very flexible when it comes to sessions because you can never predict if something may come up and move the session in a totally different and needed direction.
What you can Expect Coming to my Office:
You will be warmly greeted, and have options of seating.
I offer a free half hour consultation session set up for the purpose of getting to know each other and to help you decide if we are a good fit. I will ask questions such as previous counselling experiences, and other things I may want to know about you. You can also use this time to ask me questions and explore my style of executing therapy.
In our first full session together, I will ask you to tell me your story. This time allows me to get a better picture of the life you have experienced. I want my clients to be able to tell their story without any interruptions, but may at times ask questions to help guide you through sharing. I like having my clients guide the pace and direction of sessions. Depending on my client’s needs I can be seen taking more of a facilitator role or an interviewing role which involves questions relevant to assist my client in reaching their therapeutic goals.
