Are you having racing thoughts, difficulty focusing, or trouble sleeping? Do you find you often forget things or have a hard time sitting still without fidgeting? Do you feel disconnected from others or struggle in social situations? Symptoms of ADHD and Autism can be difficult to navigate in a world that expects adults to always be “on top” of everything or the life of the party.
As a former special education teacher, I specialize in working with individuals with both mental health issues and developmental disabilities like Autism and ADHD. With therapy, we can work on strategies for managing the challenges and help you to feel more comfortable and confident in your life.
I grew up in New York City and went to school to be a teacher. I got my first masters in special education and taught in elementary schools in Queens and the south Bronx for 8 years.
I realized teaching wasn’t the best fit for me, so I went back to school to get a second masters degree in clinical social work. Since then, I have worked in outpatient community mental health clinics, university counseling centers, schools, residential treatment centers, and in home based therapy.
My therapy style:
As a therapy client, I always have felt frustrated when a therapist nods, says things like, “that must be so hard for you,” and doesn’t really guide me anywhere.
As a therapist, you’ll probably see me nodding and hear some “that must be so hard for you” from time to time, but I’ll also give you exercises, strategies, and tips for managing symptoms. I truly believe the magic of therapy is in the combination of empathy, understanding, and coaching through the process.
I am a licensed clinical social worker in Florida and Colorado.
